Blu-Ray Discs (BD)

Recently heard about this revolution in the disc technology, the Blu-ray revolution.

A single layer Blu-Ray disc is roughly the same size as a DVD, can hold up to 27 GB of data or more than two hours of high-definition video (about 13 hours of standard video). A double-layer BD can store up to 54 GB of data, which is the storage capacity of more than 65 CDs.

Blu-Ray discs come in special formats like DVDs.

  • BD-ROM (read only) - for pre-recorded content
  • BD-R (recordable) - for PC data storage
  • BD-RW (rewritable) - for PC data storage
  • BD-RE (rewritable) - for HDTV recording
On December 24, 2004 JVC introduced the first Blu-ray / DVD Combo and HP is going to introduce Blu-ray drivers into their PC in late 2005.

After the BD revolution, think what will happen to the CDs. The same thing that happened to floppy disks wil happen to CDs in the near future.

So, get ready for the blu-ray revolution.
